9a Project Space is building something ambitious in the Calder Valley – and as a
Founding Member, you can be part of shaping it from the very beginning.
Rooted in a nineteenth-century mill above the River Calder, 9a is a space for
creativity, exchange and experimentation. We exist to ensure that people in West
Yorkshire can access a high-quality, artistically ambitious cultural offer on their
doorstep, and to help redress the imbalance in access to arts and culture across
the UK.
By becoming a Founding Member, you’re not just supporting an arts venue – you’re
helping to build a more connected, creative and equitable future for our communities.
Why Become a Founding Member?
Your support helps us:
– Bring ambitious exhibitions, performances and workshops to a semi-rural area
– Create space for artists and communities to meet, collaborate and experiment
– Invest in local people, talent and ideas
– Build long-term social, cultural and environmental impact in the Calder Valley
– As a Founding Member, you become part of the story of 9a — helping shape
what it is and what it can become.

Our Vision
- We believe that art and creativity are essential tools for re-thinking our collective future — and that everyone should have the opportunity to take part. 9a Project Space is designed as a “leaky” structure: open, responsive and connected. We create space for flows of ideas between artists, communities and the distinct landscapes of the Upper Calder Valley — from Cornholme to Todmorden.
- Through exhibitions, performances, workshops, gardening and artist development, we are building a place where people can come together to explore histories, imagine futures, and create meaningful change.
Join Us
- As a Founding Member, you’re not just supporting a programme — you’re helping to build a lasting cultural space rooted in community, curiosity and care. Join us at the beginning. Help shape what comes next.
